Before the Katana, there was the GS1000.
Introduced in 1978 as Suzuki's first litre-class motorcycle, the GS1000 grew from the superb-handling GS750 but was engineered to be lighter, stronger and faster. Its chassis was developed under Suzuki engineer Hisashi Morikawa, while an obsessive weight-saving program meant its 997cc engine was actually lighter than the smaller GS750 unit it evolved from.
Suzuki didn't have to wait long to find out whether it worked. In its debut year, a Yoshimura GS1000 won at Daytona, then Wes Cooley and Mike Baldwin won the inaugural Suzuka 8 Hours on another Yoshimura-prepared GS1000.
Fast, beautifully proportioned and devastatingly effective on the racetrack, the GS1000 established the blueprint for Suzuki's big-bore superbikes that followed.

- Machine-wash cold, inside-out, on a gentle cycle with similar colours.
- Use mild detergent.
- Use non-chlorine bleach only when necessary.
- Do not use fabric softener.
- Do not dry-clean.
- Hang-dry where practical, or tumble-dry on low.
- If ironing is necessary, use a cool iron with the garment inside-out.
- Never iron directly over the print.
Proper care helps prevent fading, cracking and shrinking.
