The superbike between the GS1000 and the Katana.
Introduced in 1980, the Suzuki GSX1100E brought a new 1,074cc, 16-valve engine and Suzuki's Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber — TSCC — technology to the big-bore superbike battle.
Styled under Suzuki design chief Hisashi Morikawa, the bike we know was actually Suzuki's second attempt. The original prototype was judged too radical for the American and European markets, so Morikawa toned it down before production.
There wasn't much restrained about its performance. Contemporary testing put the GSX1100E among the quickest production motorcycles in the world, and Cycle World named it Superbike of the Year three years running.
More importantly, underneath that unmistakably early-'80s bodywork was the engine and chassis that would soon become the foundation of the GSX1100S Katana.

- Machine-wash cold, inside-out, on a gentle cycle with similar colours.
- Use mild detergent.
- Use non-chlorine bleach only when necessary.
- Do not use fabric softener.
- Do not dry-clean.
- Hang-dry where practical, or tumble-dry on low.
- If ironing is necessary, use a cool iron with the garment inside-out.
- Never iron directly over the print.
Proper care helps prevent fading, cracking and shrinking.
